Creating a baby registry can be one of the most thrilling yet overwhelming experiences for a first-time mom. We invest countless hours selecting items for our little ones, often without fully grasping what we truly need. A wipe warmer? A plush giraffe? Please! Here’s a more realistic list of what I actually required after my baby arrived…
- A full-time caregiver. Ideally, someone with expertise in both lactation and sleep training.
- Multiple large packs of overnight pads. The post-delivery bleeding caught me completely off guard, as did my poor underwear choices.
- A stylish wine sippy cup. And perhaps a subscription to a monthly wine delivery service. Is there a Wine of the Day Club?
- A breast lift. And while I’m at it, a little vaginal rejuvenation wouldn’t hurt either.
- An ample supply of Children’s Benadryl, aka the miracle cure for a restless child.
- A waterproof mattress protector. Trust me, leaky nipples and new mattresses do not mix well.
- A white noise machine. Marketed for babies, but let’s be honest: it’s the moms who really need this to mask the crying sounds.
- Alcohol test strips for breastmilk. Refer to point #3 for context.
- A gift card to a more sophisticated clothing store. My Forever 21 wardrobe is no longer suitable for my new mom life.
- Couples counseling sessions, because parenting introduces a whole new range of disputes for you and your partner.
