When it comes to choosing a birthday for your little one, some days clearly take the cake—just not in a good way. A recent survey revealed the least desirable dates for childbirth, with many moms sharing their preferences (or lack thereof).

Surprisingly, Christmas tops the list, with 40% of mothers wishing to steer clear of a December 25 birthday for their kids. Following closely is Leap Day, as 38% of moms expressed they wouldn’t want to have a baby born on such an unusual day.

Interestingly, Gen Z mothers are less inclined than Millennials to want “birthday twins,” showing a shift in preferences. Only 22% of younger moms would want to avoid giving birth on a relative’s birthday, compared to 7% of older moms.

Moreover, about a quarter of mothers are open to the idea of scheduling an induction or a C-section to keep their baby from sharing a birthday with a holiday. In fact, 13% said they’d go through with it, while another 12% are on the fence about it.

When my due date landed around Thanksgiving, my grandmother’s advice was simple: “Never mix turkey with your baby’s birthday cake.” As a late November child myself, I can relate to her sentiment. Unfortunately, I ended up giving my child one of the least favorable birthday dates, as 23% of moms in a recent poll said any date close to the holidays is undesirable.
