There’s a common misconception that sharing Mother’s Day with your spouse might not be the most exciting arrangement, but I find it to be incredibly rewarding. No one else understands my need for a break quite like my partner, Alex. Just as I require my own day off from parenting duties, she deserves hers too. So, what’s our go-to plan? We escape the house together. Whether it’s indulging in brunch or simply wandering the shops, we give each other permission to relax and take a breather without the stress of making decisions. It’s a win-win situation!

Many husbands often find themselves scrambling last minute, wandering through store aisles on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, only to settle for a generic card that reads “You’re the best, Mom!” paired with some stale Easter candy. In contrast, Alex knows exactly what I appreciate because she pays attention to the details. She’s the one who can track down that elusive pair of shoes I’ve been searching for over the past few months—she even gets me two pairs! Who else could do that but someone who truly understands?

Over the past couple of years, my own monthly cycle has coincided with Mother’s Day. Thankfully, no one relates to this situation better than my wonderful partner. I’m fortunate that she’s there to soothe my discomfort and pamper me with snacks, never judging the amount of junk food I indulge in. It definitely makes the day more bearable!

On this special day, our child revels in the joy of having two moms, and honestly, I couldn’t agree more. Sharing Mother’s Day with Alex is a beautiful experience that allows me to express my gratitude for everything she does to keep our family and home running smoothly. In return, she does the same for me.
