12 Nostalgic Activities from the ’90s That I Thought Were Behind Me

I once believed that stepping into adulthood and parenthood would put an end to my youthful antics. However, it seems that some habits die hard. Here’s what I still find myself doing:

  1. Yelling at Boys from Moving Vehicles
Long before the era of smartphones, my friends and I would shout out of car windows to communicate with boys. Fast forward to today, and I still roll down the windows while driving through the neighborhood, asking, “Is your mom home?” or “How was the game?”
  2. Sneaking Out at Night
There’s something about the thrill of waiting for everyone to fall asleep, then tiptoeing to the back door, hoping to avoid creaky floorboards. We used to do it to our parents, and now I find myself doing the same to my kids.
  3. Sneaking Back In After a Night Out
Once you manage to escape, the real challenge is returning unnoticed. Can I walk down the hall, shoes in hand, and climb into bed without revealing how much fun I really had?
  4. Curling My Hair
Every time I plug in my curling iron, I have a moment of disbelief. It brings back vivid memories of unfortunate hairstyles. Yet, as wavy hair makes a comeback, I find myself embracing the curling iron again, and let’s not even start on French braids!
  5. Making Late-Night Fast Food Runs
As an adult, one of the most challenging aspects is figuring out dinner every evening. Sometimes, a quick trip to the Taco Bell drive-thru is the perfect solution after a long day.
  6. Worrying About Split Ends
In high school, I spent countless hours inspecting my hair, searching for the ultimate split end. Now that my hair is longer, I’ve resumed that obsessive search for the biggest split end, the one that looks like it belongs in a horror movie.
  7. Smuggling Alcohol
I often find myself plotting how to sneak alcohol into events that are supposed to be sober. Instead of school dances, it’s now about movie nights at the kids’ school or Little League games where I think, “This could use a little something extra.”
  8. Counting Down to Spring Break
The anticipation of spring break was palpable back in the day. Now, I’m still counting down, but it’s less about beach trips and more about how many days I won’t have to pack school lunches.
  9. Creating Cutoffs
Last summer, I made a pair of cutoffs and tried to pass it off as a budget-friendly, Pinterest-inspired project. To my surprise, I wore them frequently—much to my delight.
  10. Using My Period as an Excuse to Avoid Exercise
Clutching my stomach, I lay on the couch proclaiming there’s no way I can work out today. Instead, I focus on scrolling through Instagram, fully committed to my “rest.”
  11. Listening to ’90s Rap
A friend introduced me to a radio station dedicated to ’90s rap. The other day, I was leaving Target and heard classic tracks like “Nuthin’ but a G Thang.” My kids in the backseat couldn’t understand why I was so captivated.
  12. Worrying About Aging
In my youth, I fretted over whether I looked old enough. Now, I often ponder if I look too old. Questions like, “Am I too old to jam to the latest Taylor Swift album?” frequently cross my mind.

In summary, while I thought adulthood would lead me away from my youthful habits, I’ve discovered that many of my past antics have simply evolved. It’s a humorous reminder that some things never really change. For more insights into parenting, check out our resource on boosting fertility supplements here.
