Every birth story is one-of-a-kind. In our series, “My Birth Story,” mothers from across the globe share their journeys of bringing new life into the world. These narratives offer a spectrum of experiences, from those who have had vaginal births to C-sections, and from solitary deliveries to intimate family gatherings. Each story, whether it involves a quick birth or a longer labor, showcases the raw emotion and beauty of childbirth.

On the morning of January 29, 2021, everything changed for me. I was 39 weeks pregnant with my first child together with my husband, but I had already given birth to my older son. I thought I knew what to expect. My previous labor had taken a strenuous 10 hours in a hospital. However, this time, when the first contraction hit, I was home alone, waiting for my husband, who was at an appointment. I felt the pain and thought it would be a while before the next contraction came. To my shock, just minutes later, another wave of pain surged through me. I quickly reached for my phone.

Precipitous labor, defined as rapid labor occurring within three hours, is not as common as movies would have you believe. Yet, my experience mirrored those dramatic scenes we often see on screen. Thankfully, my husband arrived just in time to help deliver our beautiful baby.
