Don’t Listen to the Naysayers — You Can Travel After Having a Baby

My little one has already been on over 15 flights before turning two, and I couldn’t be happier that we decided to keep traveling with him. In our “What I Wish I’d Known” series, parents share valuable insights gained since welcoming their children into the world.

During a recent getaway to Hawaii, my 15-month-old was eager to dive into the pool while we enjoyed dinner outside, trying to escape from his high chair like a little magician. Nearby, I spotted a couple savoring a peaceful dinner on their babymoon. They looked so serene, but my thoughts immediately turned to the logistics: a five-hour flight while pregnant, virgin piña coladas, and the hot flashes brought on by hormones.

Traditionally, babymoons—those romantic getaways during pregnancy—are seen as a chance to relax or explore before the baby arrives. Yet, the notion of a last hurrah before parenthood carries a certain stigma. While I have nothing against the concept of a babymoon, I found that it wasn’t for me. Instead, I’m proof that you can embark on exciting adventures after your baby is born.

We joke that my son, Leo, and the famous artist now share the moniker “Mr. Worldwide” because he has already taken 18 flights by the time he turned 15 months. Babymoons are wonderful, but so is traveling with your little one.

In 2022, before I became pregnant, my partner and I relocated from New York to Southern California to be closer to family. We always planned to visit the East Coast for special occasions, and learning we were expecting in early 2023 didn’t change that commitment. We simply adjusted our plans to include our new addition.
