Where are all the girl moms out there?!
Kerry Washington recently expressed how being a mother to both a daughter and a son inspires her to strive for greatness. During the TIME Women of the Year gala, the star of Little Fires Everywhere talked to Entertainment Tonight about her experience as a mom and the significance of being a “girl mom.”
“It feels surreal,” Washington shared. “I’m so excited to be here, honored alongside women I admire who are doing incredible work. We need to uplift each other and tackle the challenges ahead to make the world a better place.”
She continued, “Being a ‘girl mom’ definitely shifts your perspective on these issues. It pushes me to do more, be better, and support them fully.”
One innovative way Washington aims to inspire her daughter and other women is through her “Black Herstory” Instagram series, where she pays homage to influential Black women throughout history.
“We wanted a fun way to honor these pivotal figures,” Washington explained. “While Black History Month is vital, we focused on Black women for ‘herstory,’ and we continued into March for Women’s History Month. For me, Black history is relevant every day of the year.”
