In Support of Slim Eyebrows

In today’s beauty landscape, thick, full eyebrows are all the rage, with influencers and beauty enthusiasts proclaiming their love for bushy brows. However, just because this trend is celebrated by beauty icons doesn’t mean it suits everyone. Many individuals prefer to embrace their thin eyebrows, whether naturally occurring or enhanced, and that’s perfectly acceptable.

Eyebrow trends have long been a source of scrutiny. Who can forget the late 90s and early 2000s when ultra-thin brows were the ideal and those with fuller eyebrows faced criticism? Now, the pendulum has swung back, with countless people resorting to various products and techniques to achieve that coveted full-brow look.

Staying on top of beauty trends can be financially draining, and the thick brow trend is no exception. For those blessed with naturally voluminous brows, that’s fantastic! Yet, for many, achieving the perfect bushy brow often involves a combination of eyebrow pencils, gels, bi-weekly appointments with brow specialists, tinting, microblading, and sometimes even tattooing new eyebrows onto their faces. I’ve seen some people resort to using Elmer’s glue sticks to keep their brows in place! There’s even a trend called “brow lamination,” akin to perming for your brows, which can be quite the investment in time and money.

As a former victim of the thin eyebrow fad from the 90s, I completely understand the reluctance to undergo extensive measures to alter one’s natural brows. Personally, my eyebrows have always been a bit unruly, with inconsistent thickness requiring frequent maintenance to stay in line with trends. I remember a makeup artist once plucked my brows down to about ten hairs on each side, leaving me to figure out how to fill them in myself. Thin brows didn’t complement my round face, and my makeup skills were lacking. Thankfully, my brows eventually grew back.

Not everyone was fortunate enough to achieve the ultra-thin brows that were fashionable years ago. Just as not everyone has the full, bushy brows that are in vogue today. Some have suffered the consequences of over-plucking, waxing, or shaving, leaving them with sparse brows that struggle to recover. On the other hand, some may find themselves committed to thick brows for life due to permanent makeup techniques.

Through the decades, eyebrow styles have evolved, from arched and round to thick and thin, and even completely shaved. Each era has brought its unique trends, and it’s only a matter of time before a new brow fad emerges.

If chasing the latest trend is essential to you, feel free to indulge. However, no one should feel compelled to forgo their natural eyebrows for the sake of following a beauty trend. Contrary to what the beauty industry and social media may suggest, the thickness of your brows does not define your beauty.

So, if you naturally have thick brows, enjoy that for now. If your brows are thin, think carefully before undertaking any costly or long-term changes. Ultimately, the best beauty trend is to embrace yourself as you are. If thin brows look good on you and boost your confidence, then go for it. Remember, the only opinion that truly matters is your own.
