Lin-Manuel Miranda’s highly awaited film adaptation of “In the Heights” is set to premiere on HBO Max this Thursday and in theaters on Friday. However, fans can get a sneak peek today as the first eight minutes have been released for free! Miranda’s love for his audience shines through as he shares this exciting glimpse into the film.
This cinematic version brings to life Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical from 2008, focusing on the vibrant, predominantly Latin community of Washington Heights in New York City. The cast features Anthony Ramos in the role of Usnavi De La Vega, alongside Miranda himself, Marc Anthony, Jimmy Smits, and Corey Hawkins, among others.
In the opening sequence, Ramos introduces Usnavi and his neighborhood through a catchy rap, and fans may recognize him from his role in the original cast of Hamilton.

Director Jon M. Chu, known for his work on Crazy Rich Asians, shared his thoughts on the film prior to a special preview screening, stating, “It’s going to be Washington Heights that will show the world how to get up again.” Chu expressed that the film has been a source of inspiration for him.
Excitingly, Leslie Grace, who makes her acting debut as Nina Rosario, hinted at the possibility of a sequel. “We’re all signed up for that. We are ready and waiting in line, even if it takes 20 more years like it took for the first one,” she said.
The film will be available in theaters starting June 11 and will also begin streaming on HBO Max on June 10, where it will be accessible for 30 days.
