In a powerful display of unity, thousands of individuals around the globe demonstrated in support of Palestinians on Saturday, following a surge of violence in Gaza and Israel. The unrest, which resulted in the deaths of at least 145 Palestinians, including 41 children and 23 women, as well as eight Israelis, sparked rallies from the United States to Europe and beyond.
United States
Pro-Palestinian demonstrations took place in major cities across the U.S., including New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas. In Washington, D.C., hundreds marched from the Washington Monument to the U.S. Capitol, voicing their concerns about Israel’s actions against Palestinians. “People think they can be neutral about this. That’s absolutely wrong,” said 17-year-old Maya Al-Mansour, who traveled from Virginia with her family. “We must advocate for political support on this critical issue.” In Los Angeles, thousands blocked traffic, while in New York, crowds marched through Brooklyn, featuring Palestinian-American model Layla Noor.
Europe
In Paris, French riot police clashed with protesters, using tear gas and water cannons against those who gathered in defiance of a march ban, expressing their solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Meanwhile, peaceful protests occurred in London, Rome, and Madrid, where thousands participated.
Asia and Australia
In Tokyo, approximately 300 individuals rallied to show their support for Palestine. In New Zealand, large crowds gathered to march in solidarity, chanting “free Palestine!” Across Australia, thousands joined Free Palestine rallies in Sydney and Melbourne, with around 5,000 attending a gathering at Sydney Town Hall. “I’ve been going to these events my whole life, and the turnout today was truly remarkable,” shared protestor Tara Khoury.
Latin America and Africa
In Mexico City, demonstrators waved Palestinian flags while chanting, “Long live Palestine! Long live peace!” Similarly, hundreds of South Africans protested in cities like Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Port Elizabeth, echoing chants of “free, free Palestine.” Pro-Palestinian demonstrations also took place in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey.
Spain
Around 2,500 people gathered in Madrid, many of them young and wrapped in Palestinian flags, chanting, “This is not a war, it’s genocide,” highlighting the urgency of the situation.
These protests followed a violent escalation that started when Israeli security forces raided Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan, injuring numerous worshippers and leading Hamas to retaliate with rocket fire. Recent airstrikes in Gaza have tragically taken the lives of children and women, further igniting global outrage.
