If you or someone you know can’t stop raving about their Peloton, you’re certainly not alone. Unfortunately, the rest of us might not share the same enthusiasm. While we celebrate the achievements of our Peloton-loving friends—like hitting a personal record, overtaking Marjorie from New Jersey, or completing their 100th ride—we can’t help but wish they had another outlet for their excitement. Enter Jimmy Kimmel’s “Teloton,” a fictional phone service designed for those who want to boast about their rides to someone who’s paid to listen.

About the Skit

In the sketch titled “Teloton – Because You Won’t Stop Talking About Your Stupid Bike,” Kimmel and his team showcase a rider named “Josh” who can’t resist bragging about his Peloton experiences. From his increasing quad strength to sweating from his elbows, he shares every detail, even the ones that leave the Teloton operator rolling her eyes.

The Teloton listener starts off cheerily congratulating Josh on his accomplishments, allowing his friends to finally stop pretending they care. However, as Josh continues to drone on about burning 400 calories in 20 minutes, her enthusiasm quickly wanes. She starts responding with phrases like, “Yeah, you mentioned that,” while trying to focus on her work, clearly unimpressed. Josh, oblivious to her utter disinterest, wonders if they’re becoming friends, prompting her to ask, “Do you pay $40 a month to talk to your friends?”

The Breaking Point

As Josh begins listing the top 12 instructors in no particular order, the Teloton operator finally snaps. “No. Forget this,” she exclaims, tossing off her headset and pushing him off his bike, shouting, “No one cares about your stupid bike!” This hilarious moment resonates with anyone who has sat through such conversations.

Kimmel pointed out that Peloton sales have surged by 172% since the pandemic began, providing an excellent way for many to exercise at home. While this shift has been beneficial for physical and mental health, sharing every minute detail of a Peloton journey often does little to engage others. It’s a shame that this sketch isn’t a real service, as many of us would gladly send our overly enthusiastic friends there.

Summary

Jimmy Kimmel’s “Teloton” skit humorously addresses the frustration of hearing friends incessantly discuss their Peloton experiences. While it highlights the joy of personal fitness achievements, it also captures the exasperation felt by those on the receiving end of such conversations.
