A well-known actress recently shared her compelling reason for wanting her nine-year-old son, Max, to witness her giving birth. After welcoming her third child, a daughter named Lily, through a home water birth, she emphasized the significance of this experience for Max, who was present along with her partner, Jake. Although she had someone care for her other child during the delivery, she felt it was crucial for Max to see the strength of women firsthand.
“It was really important for me to have Max there because I believe in being open and honest about how powerful women are and the realities of childbirth,” she explained on a recent podcast. “He understands about bodily changes, and I want to normalize these topics so he respects all the women in his life.”
She also expressed a desire for her son to grasp the true meaning of human resilience. “Sometimes at that age, boys think strength is just about muscles, but we bring life into this world. We nurture and create,” she noted. “We’re having a big conversation at home about equality and recognizing strength in different forms.”
Despite her vision for the birth, it didn’t unfold as planned. The delivery was remarkably quick, lasting just over three hours, and Max arrived in the room just moments after Lily was born. “He was eager to be part of it, but it happened so fast that he missed the main event,” she shared.
She also emphasized the importance of showing her son the various ways people can give birth. “I want him to respect the choices of his future partner, whether that’s a home birth or a hospital delivery. Every birth is unique,” she stated.
