My daughter loves to share the latest TikTok trends with me, from food hacks to beauty secrets, and even adorable animal clips. It’s become a cherished routine for us, and I genuinely look forward to our time on the couch watching these videos together. Recently, she sent me a clip about something called Wonder Water, a hair treatment I had never encountered before.

Available on Amazon for just $9.

To give you some context about my hair journey, I grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s, where I was a big fan of Sun-In, lemon juice, and VO5 hot oil treatments. I definitely put my hair through it all, thinking I could use hot oil to undo the damage I caused. Once Frizz Ease came along and I could afford it, I used it religiously. In college, straightening irons were not a common find, so I had to make do with the widest curling iron I could locate to try to tame my wavy, frizzy hair that I had bleached with cheap grocery store dye. Spoiler alert: it never looked like the models in Vogue.

I’ve tried every imaginable product to smooth my frizz, from shampoos to conditioners, masks, and keratin treatments—everything has been in my dry hair. Now that I’m older, I’ve stopped damaging my hair with harsh chemicals, but it still tends to look dry and straw-like, so I’m always on the lookout for solutions. When I hear about something that works, especially if it’s under $10 and easily found at the drugstore, I’m in!

If you’re unfamiliar with Wonder Water, let me tell you: it really does wonders for your hair!

Before trying it, I was curious about the proper way to apply it, so I consulted L’Oreal’s instructions. You start by washing your hair, then apply the product from the mid-lengths to the ends, using a zig-zag motion with your hands.

The first thing I noticed was the lovely floral scent, which made my hair feel healthier even before use. The directions say to leave it on for just eight seconds, and it adapts to your hair’s specific damage.

After rinsing, my hair felt unbelievably soft—like cornsilk! It also expanded in volume, which was reassuring. I was tempted to leave it in longer, imagining myself emerging from the shower with luxurious, glossy hair. However, I stuck to the eight-second rule.

When I dried my hair, my brush glided through effortlessly; it looked better than when I had a keratin treatment at the salon! For my fine hair, I only needed to use a quarter of the bottle, so there’s plenty left for future uses. If you have thicker or curlier hair, you might need more.

With previous serums or treatments, I often ended up with greasy-looking hair, but that was not an issue with Wonder Water—it adjusts to your hair type perfectly. I’m thrilled to have found a product that actually delivers results for my hair, and I plan to keep it stocked for myself and my daughter. Trust me, running out of Wonder Water would not make for a happy household!
