In an inspiring moment during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship game, Coach Mia Thompson of the Arizona Wildcats showcased the incredible balance of motherhood and coaching. While her team was in the locker room, she took a moment to pump breast milk for her six-month-old daughter, Zoe, demonstrating the multitasking prowess of working moms.

ESPN reporter Kelly Adams praised Thompson for her efforts, stating, “Let’s normalize the reality of working mothers and the dedication they show.” The Wildcats faced a nail-biting finish against Stanford, ultimately losing by just one point, but Thompson’s dedication behind the scenes deserves recognition.

After the game, Thompson reflected on the challenges of being a new mother during the season. “I had just given birth when the season kicked off. I took a week off, but I was back on Zoom calls only days after my C-section,” she shared. “My team supported me through it all, and I’m grateful for their patience.

Thompson also emphasized the importance of her support system. “I have my village behind me, and I want to represent all moms out there. You can excel as a coach and a parent; it just takes the right support,” she noted. “I’m proud to be a Black woman in this position, showing that we can break barriers and seize opportunities.

Before the game, she humorously mentioned the early wake-up calls from her daughter and how she juggles the various roles of being a player, coach, and mother. “It’s a privilege to wear so many hats—being a former athlete, a Black woman, and a mother,” Thompson said. “You can continue your coaching career without sacrificing motherhood.

Despite the heart-wrenching loss, Thompson expressed immense pride in her team’s performance. “My girls gave it their all. I’m so proud of them for what we achieved this season!
