After more than a decade of sharing her life with fans, Chrissy Teigen has bid farewell to Twitter, a platform she joined back in May 2009. Teigen has been a constant presence on social media, but she has decided it’s time to step away from the app.
In a heartfelt series of tweets on Wednesday night, Teigen reflected on her transformation over the years. “Hey everyone. For over a decade, you all have meant the world to me. I genuinely owe so much to the community we’ve built here. I truly see many of you as friends,” she expressed.
However, she continued, “It’s time for me to move on. The experience has shifted from being positive to largely negative, and I believe this is the right moment to step back. My ultimate goal has always been to spread happiness, and the hurt I feel when I can’t do that is overwhelming. While I’ve often been viewed as the strong and witty one, the truth is I’m just not.”
Teigen acknowledged the pressure of public perception, admitting, “My need for approval and fear of disappointing others have changed me into someone you didn’t sign up for. Live well, Twitter friends. Remember, all I ever cared about was you!!!”
She reminded her followers, “Your words hold weight. Regardless of how someone presents themselves, your intentions matter. Over the years, I’ve endured countless small jabs that have left me genuinely hurt.” She confessed her struggles with ignoring negativity on the platform.
“I’m just a sensitive person, okay!? I don’t want to feel this way, but it’s who I am!” she added. “I love you all and cherish our moments together, even though I also have my frustrations.” She concluded with a simple “<3” before deactivating her account.
It remains uncertain if the mother of two will continue to share updates on Instagram, where she often posts family moments and details about her projects. Recently, Teigen has been candid about the difficult grieving process following her pregnancy loss with son, Jack, last fall. She has also faced criticism for some of her social media content, such as tweets about expensive wine during a challenging economic period. With her departure, President Joe Biden loses one of his high-profile Twitter followers, but he can still stay connected with celebrities like Lady Gaga and Mariska Hargitay.
