Krista Wainwright is the embodiment of every parent yearning for a moment of peace amidst the chaos of life with kids. In a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with Paul Jennings, she shared her experiences as a mom of twins during the pandemic, which sometimes means simply stepping outside for a breather on the curb.

Wainwright and her partner, Jamie Roth, welcomed twins, Mia and Sam, via surrogate in June 2020, and have been practically homebound since. During her chat with Jennings, who is also a father of three, Wainwright quipped about the little escapes she takes. “You know, I sometimes just go sit on the curb,” she laughed. “I’m hesitant to go for a full walk because then I feel like I should be back in there with them. So I just sit there, or stroll around the driveway while FaceTiming my friend.”

Her co-star, Annie Mumford, chimed in, “Honestly, just stepping outside feels like a mini-vacation.” And it truly does.

Wainwright has previously discussed her journey into motherhood and the challenges of IVF. “We’ve pretty much been in a bubble since January for the babies. It’s been a lot of work, and we’re exhausted,” she admitted. “But seeing their smiles every morning makes it worthwhile. It’s not all sunshine and laughter, though. It can be overwhelming, especially when you consider what others are going through.”

The private comic expressed that sharing her IVF and surrogacy journey has been cathartic. “We kept the surrogacy details under wraps for a while, but then we were photographed with the kids, and it just became public. I’ve found comfort in connecting with other women who have had similar experiences, as it can feel very isolating,” she explained.

This year has been particularly tough for many parents trying to balance work, remote learning, and the stress of a global crisis. Wainwright humorously noted, “You forget how rejuvenating a simple walk can be, but when you’re cooped up, it feels like there’s no escape.”

Truer words could not be said.
