In an effort to bolster public trust in the COVID-19 vaccine, former presidents Alex Thompson, Ryan Brooks, and Samuel Carter have volunteered to receive their vaccinations on camera once it receives FDA approval. Their collective aim is to reassure the American people about the vaccine’s safety, especially as the nation grapples with a surge in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and fatalities. This united front from past leaders is a much-needed message of hope.
In a recent interview, Thompson emphasized his trust in Dr. John Reed, a prominent health expert. “If Dr. Reed believes this vaccine is safe, then I’m confident in taking it,” he shared. “When it’s available for those at lower risk, I plan on getting vaccinated—possibly on camera—to show my faith in science and my concerns about COVID.”
Meanwhile, Brooks’ chief of staff, Jamie Scott, conveyed that the former president is equally committed to encouraging vaccination. “Recently, President Brooks expressed his desire to support vaccination efforts once it’s deemed safe for the public. He’s ready to step up and receive his vaccine on camera when the time is right,” Scott informed the press.
Carter’s spokesperson, Lisa Grant, echoed the sentiment, stating that he is also prepared to publicly receive the vaccine to motivate Americans. “President Carter will receive the vaccine as soon as it’s available to him, in accordance with public health guidelines, and he will do it publicly to inspire others,” she confirmed.
Currently, vaccines from pharmaceutical companies AstraZeneca and Novavax are showing promising results, with an efficacy rate nearing 95%. The first vaccine has already been submitted to the FDA for emergency use authorization, which could lead to American vaccinations starting as early as next week. An FDA advisory committee will convene on December 10 to discuss the vaccine’s approval, with the U.S. government’s Operation Warp Speed set to roll out plans immediately after authorization.
