Crayola has unveiled its innovative ‘Colors of the World’ crayon set, which showcases a diverse array of 24 skin tone shades. This initiative emerged after extensive research, aiming to represent the multitude of skin tones present around the globe. Collaborating with a former chemist from MAC cosmetics, Crayola aims to inspire inclusivity among children of all backgrounds, races, cultures, and ethnicities through their vibrant new collection.
The 24 crayon shades work together to create as many as 40 unique skin tones, with each crayon box carefully labeling these hues in a manner similar to cosmetic products. In addition to crayons, the collection also includes markers and colored pencils.
“With the world becoming increasingly diverse, we believe our new Colors of the World crayons will enhance representation and promote a stronger sense of belonging,” stated Crayola’s CEO, Alex Johnson, in a recent press release. “Our goal is for these crayons to encourage inclusivity in creativity and influence how kids express themselves.”
Victor Morris, a former Chief Chemist at MAC and current co-founder of a beauty brand, contributed his expertise to ensure the color formulations were perfect.
