Back in August, Disney teased us with a brief trailer that was undeniably charming, but this extended version offers a deeper look into the story’s universe and showcases the unique personalities of Lady and Tramp. Voiced by Justin Theroux, Tramp is playful and witty, even cheekily asking a pair of glamorous poodles if they are twins, to which one responds, “Hey man, I’m her husband.” Lady, voiced by Tessa Thompson, is sharp, clever, and utterly captivating, especially when her eyes fill with tears.
While the original animated film told a lovely tale of romance, these CGI-enhanced dogs (actually real dogs with a touch of CGI magic) tug at our heartstrings in ways that traditional animation simply can’t. Just wait for the iconic spaghetti and meatball scene—it’s impossible not to squeal with delight.
According to Disney, “Lady and the Tramp” is a timeless reimagining of the classic animated film. It follows the journey of a pampered house dog and a rough but lovable stray as they embark on an unexpected adventure. Despite their differences, they grow closer and learn the importance of home. Aww.
If the trailer didn’t bring on the nostalgic tears, this will. The dogs featured in the film are actual rescue dogs. Tramp is portrayed by a 2-year-old terrier mix named Max, who was later adopted by his trainer. As reported by People, Max was chosen for his expressive eyes and gentle demeanor. Remarkably, all rescue dogs used in the film have now found loving homes.
“Lady and the Tramp” will stream exclusively on Disney Plus, with no theatrical release, starting November 12, 2019, alongside a variety of new content. Highlights include “Noelle,” starring Bill Hader and Anna Kendrick, a festive film about Santa’s children saving Christmas, as well as “The Mandalorian,” set in the Star Wars universe five years after Return of the Jedi. Plus, there’s a new series called “The World According to Jeff Goldblum” that fans will surely enjoy.
