Exploring London: A Memorable Journey with My Son

One of the greatest joys of parenting three children is the opportunity for individual bonding moments with each one. While one-on-one time is certainly attainable with only one or two kids, there’s an undeniable charm in transitioning from the bustling noise of three to the tranquility of just one. Recently, I had the pleasure of spending an entire week in London with my son, Liam, along with my mother during spring break.

As the youngest child, Liam has always been relatively easy to please. I recall a time when he was overjoyed simply at receiving a new pair of pajamas rather than his brother’s hand-me-downs. “They match!!!” he exclaimed, much to the amusement of family members who were quick to judge my parenting choices. With such a delightful character, I had high expectations for our London adventure, especially relishing the respite from constant sibling squabbles. Thankfully, the trip exceeded all my hopes.

London captivated us completely. Our days were filled with unforgettable experiences, from watching Wicked and The Lion King to indulging in far too many petit fours at two delightful afternoon teas. My mother and I also squeezed in some shopping, and with just one child to manage, the occasional complaints felt like a breeze compared to the usual din of three.

A highlight of our stay was The London Edition hotel. The establishment, built from a collection of five Georgian townhouses dating back to 1835 and unified in 1908, is a stunning collaboration between Ian Schrager, co-founder of Studio 54, and Marriott. Design enthusiasts would be in awe; the lobby alone left Liam speechless: “This place is so cool,” he remarked. As we are currently renovating our home, I found myself taking notes and snapping photos for future inspiration. The bar, in particular, caught my eye—definitely not an over-the-top addition for my own home.

The dining room was absolutely breathtaking, and I indulged in two baths daily during our stay, as I doubt I’ll encounter a bathroom this pristine again. It was a welcome change from my own less-than-tidy space. Each time we returned to the hotel, the staff always greeted us warmly. Each night, we discovered a little surprise waiting in our room, a detail that truly enhanced our experience.

A hotel can profoundly influence the quality of a trip, and I am incredibly grateful to The London Edition for making our stay truly spectacular. While we enjoyed a discounted rate, all views expressed are genuinely my own.
