The eagerly awaited sequel to the beloved animated film has finally announced its cast, and it’s a mix of familiar voices and fresh talent. The original Incredibles graced our screens 14 years ago, and since then, fans have been yearning for an update on the lives of the extraordinary Parr family. This week, Disney/Pixar revealed the lineup for Incredibles 2, and it promises to introduce exciting new characters alongside the ones we’ve come to adore.

In a clever nod to the popular Google Arts & Culture app, Pixar showcased how each actor matches their animated persona. Holly Hunter reprises her role as Helen Parr, also known as Elastigirl, while Craig T. Nelson returns as Bob Parr, or Mr. Incredible. The witty and sarcastic Violet, who has the power to create force fields, will once again be voiced by Sarah Vowell. Fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Samuel L. Jackson returns as Frozone, bringing his iconic charm back to the screen.

We’re also thrilled to see the return of Edna “E” Mode, the fashion designer and defensive weaponry genius, voiced by the film’s writer and director, Brad Bird. Huckleberry “Huck” Milner takes on the role of Dash Parr, and if I ever have twins, they shall certainly be named Huck and Dash.

New characters will join the Parr family and Frozone on their adventures. Jonathan Banks from Better Call Saul steps in as Rick Dicker, the head of the Super Relocation Program, who helps maintain the secrecy of the Parrs’ superhero identities until his agency faces closure. The elegant Isabella Rossellini lends her voice to the Ambassador, who advocates for the legal recognition of superheroes. Sophia Bush voices Voyd, a young super with the ability to make objects vanish and reappear, and she is a huge admirer of Elastigirl.

Additionally, Bob Odenkirk and Catherine Keener join the cast as siblings Winston and Evelyn Deavor. He aims to bring superheroes back into the limelight by shifting public perception, while she is a brilliant tech innovator—an intriguing dynamic that we can’t wait to explore.

Director Brad Bird isn’t shying away from conveying a strong feminist message in this sequel. In the first Incredibles film, Helen struggled to suppress her identity as Elastigirl to fit societal expectations, only embracing her powers to protect her family. In comparison, Incredibles 2 is set to showcase her character’s growth. As Holly Hunter expressed in an interview, “She throws down the gauntlet in this one … it’s refreshing to see Helen thrive in ambition and competitiveness, much like how society permits men to do.”

Incredibles 2 is set to hit theaters on June 15, 2018. You have some time to prepare for the big day. Just remember, dressing up in your favorite superhero attire could make it even more fun!
