In the world of parenting, there’s nothing quite like witnessing someone engage with your children. A talented family photographer has recently unveiled a new collection of images that beautifully illustrates a relatable “day in the life” for many women, especially mothers. After all, many of us would gladly choose a tidy car and a fixed toilet over receiving flowers any day.

Photographer Lily Thompson, a mom from Montclair, New Jersey, named her series “What Women Want!” and infused it with humor. “I thought it’d be fun to highlight the lighter side of what women really want,” Thompson shared on her social media. “After chatting with several women, I discovered that it’s often the SIMPLE THINGS that bring joy. Life can be chaotic, but focusing on the simple pleasures makes it truly beautiful.”

Standout Photos from the Series

One standout photo, titled “I’m Gonna be Late Tonight,” features a shirtless man—potentially her partner—rescuing a clogged toilet, while the homeowner looks on, visibly delighted. And who can fault her? It’s the little things that count, right?

Another image, “Mom Juice,” depicts a dad tending to the kids in the yard while his wife relaxes with her feet up, sipping what seems to be vodka-infused Kool-Aid. Because really, what other kind could it be?

Then there’s “Old School Girls’ Night In,” showcasing a group of women enjoying a cozy evening in, complete with snacks in bed and lights out by ten. Don’t judge—after all, “You’re never too old to bring back the Zima,” Thompson quips. We couldn’t agree more, as Zima is indeed making a comeback.

And who wouldn’t love a clean car while leisurely flipping through a magazine and getting their hair braided? Sounds like an idyllic Saturday to me.

Another shot, “Heavy on the Errands,” features Thompson’s brother, Jason. Or, as we shall now call him, “Hey, are you single?” The concentration on his face as he weighs cardboard versus plastic applicators is priceless, and let’s not overlook the six-pack in his shopping basket. “This photo is inspired by my childhood memories of my dad rushing out for tampons in the middle of the night. What a hero!” Thompson recalls.

Thompson spoke to us about how most women expressed their appreciation for the small gestures in life. “Isn’t that beautiful?” she pondered. “As we grow older, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. It’s the little acts of kindness that resonate the most.”
