It’s that time of year again! No, it’s not Halloween, nor is it Thanksgiving. It’s even better than all those festive occasions rolled into one. It’s Back. To. School.
While summer means a break from schoolwork and responsibilities, it also brings its own set of challenges. Listening to your kids declare “I’m bored” every thirty minutes for two months straight can wear anyone down, not to mention the endless trail of wet towels and swimsuits left in their wake. By the time the school year rolls back around, many parents can’t help but express their excitement, especially the witty parents of Twitter.
1. Sensitive subject.
Hey, fellow northern parents, we didn’t brag about keeping our kids in school until late June, right? Well, maybe just a little!
2. Time to stress.
We’re sending our thoughts and prayers for everyone facing this transition.
3. The reality check.
No more feeling guilty about screen time? No more popsicle wrappers everywhere? No more “I’m bored” complaints? You bet we’re shedding tears of happiness.
4. Worth every penny.
Every time I toss a new pack of socks or a pair of jeans into my shopping cart, I do a little happy dance—just knowing they’ll sprout knee holes within a month.
5. Hidden treasures.
Remember those fresh underwear you bought at the end of last school year while putting off laundry? Your child kicked them under the bed and you forgot all about them—until now.
6. Almost there!
Not that we’re counting down the days, but let’s just say we have a calendar marked and a few phone alarms set. Nothing too obsessive!
7. Almost accurate.
When my firstborn started kindergarten, I cried for two weeks straight. This year, as she heads into fifth grade, I’ll be ready to celebrate as soon as the bus leaves.
8. A toast to teachers.
Let’s keep educators in our thoughts; they’re in for a wild ride this year.
9. Small victories.
We survived another summer without anyone getting lost or hurt—definitely a win!
10. Oh, happy day.
Indeed, it is! Happy Back-to-School, parents!
