Last night, I experienced a bit of a breakdown. And by “breakdown,” I mean the kind that involves some irrational shouting and a few choice words, followed by retreating to the bathroom with my phone and a stash of cookies. You know the type.
I could elaborate on what triggered this breakdown, but let’s be real—it boiled down to misallocated energy and worry. There’s a limit to how much we can give a damn about things. If we spread ourselves too thin, we eventually run out of steam. This leads to moments of frustration where we might find ourselves sobbing in the bathroom with snacks and possibly a glass of wine.
It’s crucial to reassess our priorities and adjust how much we care about various issues. Embracing an IDGAF (I Don’t Give A F*** ) mindset can be liberating. Sometimes, you just need to declutter your emotional “give-a-damn” inventory and focus on what truly matters. After all, who wants to spend excessive time holed up with cookies?
Here are a few more things I’ve decided to stop stressing over:
Retreating to the Bathroom for Cookies
Maintaining composure is a full-time job. Sometimes, a mom has to indulge in an entire sleeve of cookies or support local fundraising efforts. No judgment here.
Losing My Cool
I generally strive to remain calm and collected, taking deep breaths and letting things slide. However, some days are monumental disasters where even the most zen techniques fall short. Every once in a while, it’s healthy to express your frustrations—scream “Enough is enough!” and let it all out. I’ve realized there’s no need to feel guilty about losing it; it’s a natural part of being human.
Speaking My Truth
I tend to be a people-pleaser, wanting everyone to harmonize. Yet, there comes a time to channel your inner fierce self and voice your thoughts. And honestly, it feels empowering!
Social Media Nonsense
The online world can feel toxic, filled with humblebrags, unsolicited advice, and negativity. That’s why I’m a fan of the unfollow button. It’s a simple way to curate a more positive feed and embrace an IDGAF attitude.
Swearing
Let’s be clear: I’m a firm believer in the power of a well-timed swear word. Telling me to clean up my language is like asking me to stop enjoying coffee or wearing comfy clothes. It’s just not happening, and I won’t apologize for it.
Laundry Battles
I’ve officially thrown in the towel. Laundry has claimed victory.
My Kids’ Cluttered Rooms
I aspire to minimalism, but the reality is that kids accumulate stuff quickly. Instead of losing my mind over the chaos, I’ve opted to simply close the door and pretend the mess doesn’t exist.
PTA Responsibilities
I dedicate my time to meaningful causes, but the PTA isn’t one of them. I’m already heavily involved in various community efforts, and that’s enough for me.
Unwanted Facial Hair
As I age, I embrace my wrinkles and the occasional blemish. But chin hairs? They come out of nowhere! Instead of fretting over them, I carry tweezers for quick fixes and focus on more important things—like planning my next big adventure.
Keeping Up with Coolness
Staying on top of the latest trends and slang takes serious effort. I simply don’t have the time or energy for that. Honestly, I still struggle to grasp what “on fleek” means.
The Myth of Perfection
Perfection is dull. Embracing an IDGAF attitude allows for a more vibrant life.
