There’s a playful image making rounds on social media right now featuring a faux Fisher Price playset. In fact, several friends and family members have shared it with me, clearly seeing the humor. Having worked as a bartender before turning to writing, I found the notion quite amusing.
The mock-up depicts two toddlers enjoying a plastic bar, seemingly ready to be served some imaginary beer by a jovial bartender. I had a good laugh and moved on, as one typically does with lighthearted internet memes. However, not everyone shares this sense of humor. Comedian Jake Thompson, who helped the “playset” gain traction, boasts over two million followers on Facebook. The responses to his post reveal that a) some folks lack a sense of humor and b) many people are shockingly naïve.
“Are you kidding me? A toy company known for its family-friendly products is promoting drinking with this ‘children’s’ bar set?” one outraged user commented on Facebook. Another exclaimed, “This needs to be pulled from shelves!”
Some went so far as to say, “This is exploitation of young minds!”—calm down with the exclamation points! The outrage continued, with comments like, “Toys like this reflect a lack of morals and common sense. Political correctness is to blame!” Yes, political correctness is apparently the culprit here!
One particularly vocal commenter declared, “This is ridiculous! Kids exposed to this will grow up to be alcoholics!” Yes, clearly this playset is a surefire path to future liver damage.
Another user lamented, “What a terrible idea! A company should never trivialize drinking for young children. You may laugh now, but wait until they have real problems!” Stop shouting, please!
For starters, if this toy were real, it would be flying off the shelves. Furthermore, let’s not dismiss bartending as a legitimate role-play occupation. Children pretend to be everything from superheroes to villains—what’s the big deal about bartenders?
Amber Larson, a public relations manager for Fisher-Price, commented to CBS News, “Recently, some humorous, fictional Fisher-Price products have surfaced, likely due to a mix of adult writers and designers who grew up with our brand. We take our role in child development very seriously but appreciate the playful suggestions that show love for our brand.” In other words, lighten up!

In summary, the faux Fisher Price playset sparked a wave of absurd outrage, revealing a lack of humor and perspective among some parents. A harmless joke turned into a debate about morality and childhood influences, highlighting the need to take a step back and enjoy lighthearted moments.
