People often rave about the joys of infancy, cooing over tiny toes and sweet baby giggles. While I appreciate the charm of little ones, I find myself drawn to the teenage years instead. Yes, you heard that right! As my children have grown, my enjoyment of their company has only deepened. I’d take a lively teen over a cuddly baby any day. Here’s why:

  1. They’re Hilarious.
My teens have a knack for comedy. Their recent quips and puns have kept me in stitches — who knew they had such wit?
  2. Goodbye Cringe-Worthy Shows.
No more “Dora” or “Caillou” marathons. I can finally escape the shows that made me want to pull my hair out.
  3. They Love Their Sleep.
Teenagers seem to have a superpower: the ability to sleep in until noon. This allows me to catch up on my own much-needed rest.
  4. They’re Independent.
No more dressing or feeding struggles; they handle it all on their own. What a relief!
  5. Their Help is Genuine.
I recall my friend’s young daughter trying to wash his car with a rock. Now, my teens tackle chores like unloading the dishwasher and mowing the lawn, and it actually helps!
  6. No More Diaper Bags.
The days of packing diapers, wipes, and endless snacks are over. Thank goodness for that!
  7. Quick Store Runs.
Shopping with teens is a breeze. No more potty breaks or tantrums; we can split the grocery list and meet at the register. It’s incredibly efficient.
  8. Bathroom Independence.
I can’t express how liberating it is that they manage their own bathroom needs now.
  9. They Handle Their Illnesses.
No more catching vomit in my hands — when my son recently felt unwell, he managed it all himself. I was proud of him for being so self-sufficient.
  10. They Pack Their Own Bags.
Whether it’s for an overnight trip or a vacation, they handle their own packing. If they forget something, it’s a learning experience (like the time one of them forgot underwear!).
  11. Sarcasm is Their Second Language.
They understand and use sarcasm fluently, making our conversations even more entertaining.
  12. Engaging Conversations.
From discussing politics to the mysteries of the universe, they have insightful thoughts that lead to deep discussions.
  13. Showers are Self-Sufficient.
Gone are the days of wrestling slippery toddlers in the bath. They can shower without any help now.
  14. Sleeping In is Bliss.
Seriously, I can’t stress enough how wonderful it is to have a few extra hours of peace in the morning.
  15. No More Last-Minute Diaper Disasters.
I can’t count how many times I rushed out the door only to be hit by a sudden diaper emergency. Those days are behind me!
  16. Disney Movies are a Distant Memory.
While we still enjoy Disney films, we’re no longer stuck in an endless loop of watching the same ones repeatedly.
  17. Bathroom Privacy is Restored.
I can finally have some quiet time in the restroom without an audience. It’s pure bliss!
  18. Movie Outings are Enjoyable.
Going to the movies is a treat for all of us now. I’ve seen more films with my family in the past year than I did in all the years prior.
  19. Swearing Has its Place.
With teens around, I can finally let loose with my language. “Crud” just doesn’t carry the same weight as a well-placed expletive.

Honestly, I think our dinner table conversations could make a great reality show, complete with all the laughter and insights!
