A sports medicine physician, Emily Johnson, recently captured the internet’s attention with her incredible multitasking skills. Working in Oklahoma City, Emily faced a dilemma when her husband was away and her childcare plans for her three-year-old fell through. Instead of canceling her work commitments, she strapped her little one to her back and headed to the field, all while being 35 weeks pregnant.

She shared a snapshot of herself working sidelines at a high school football game, which quickly gained traction online. “This is what happens when you’re 35 weeks pregnant, your husband is out of town for the weekend, your childcare falls through, and you have a game to cover!” she wrote on her Facebook page.

Impressive, right? Many of us might have chosen to relax at home, using the classic excuse of being pregnant and without childcare. But not Emily—she embraced the challenge. “I shared this photo with a group of physician moms because I thought they’d appreciate the reality of our daily lives,” she explained. “The positive feedback has been overwhelming, and it reinforces my belief that we can achieve a fulfilling career and life balance, even when it’s tough.”

Emily also spoke candidly about the doubts she has faced as a woman in medicine and as a mother. “People have questioned my choices and my ability to handle both roles. For me, it’s about proving that you can accomplish multiple tasks simultaneously,” she told Home Insemination Kit. When asked if she worried about potential criticism for bringing her child to work, Emily stated, “Whether or not I receive support is irrelevant. Both roles needed my attention, and they had to be executed well.”

She further added, “Focusing on naysayers isn’t my priority. My duty is to my team, but I’m also responsible for my daughter’s safety, especially on a fast-paced field.” Fortunately, Emily works in a supportive environment that allows her to set her boundaries and manage her responsibilities effectively.

“It takes a strong community to make this work,” Emily remarked. Her decision to bring her child to work highlights the importance of supportive colleagues and flexible work arrangements. It’s a perfect example of how mothers continue to get things done, no matter the circumstance.
