10 Morning Thoughts Every Mom Has

As I envision my mornings, I picture a scenario where everything is perfectly organized. The night before, I have everything set: outfits laid out, shoes lined up, lunches prepared, and work essentials neatly arranged. It’s a dream of efficiency where my kids are sent off to school without a hitch, and I don’t have to raise my voice even once. But let’s be honest—I also daydream about having a personal maid, because clearly, I’m the only one tackling the endless cleaning around here.

The reality is that most mornings feel like a chaotic race against time. From frantically searching for keys to shaking off the morning haze just in time to manage our family’s busy schedules, I often find myself in the thick of it all. If you find yourself in the same boat, you might resonate with these common thoughts that rush through my caffeine-deprived mind as soon as the alarm blares.

  1. How much longer can I stay in bed?
Why did I stay up so late? Was it something crucial? No, just scrolling through my phone. If I linger for just 10 more minutes, will we be late? Probably. Alright, time to rise and shine.
  2. Should I really get dressed?
What are the chances I’ll need to leave the car at drop-off? I’d hate to be stuck in pajama pants. But it’s too early for a full outfit. Maybe just a bra will do for now?
  3. Is there any clean laundry?
When did I last do laundry? Oh right, last night. The kids have clothes, but they’re wrinkled. Will anyone care if I look like I’ve got elephant skin? A quick fluff cycle might help—hopefully, that’ll take care of the worst of it.
  4. Breakfast. Ugh.
What should I prepare? If I were a better mom, I’d whip up a gourmet breakfast. But seriously, how do people do that? Cereal is okay, right? I’ll just add milk to my coffee—voila, protein!
  5. Lunch prep is a disaster.
I clearly forgot to pack lunches. How long do I have to throw something together? Will the lunchroom staff judge my kids’ meals? I guess I’ll toss in a sweet note to make up for it: “Hope you have a great day! Love you!” Now, what about my lunch? Fingers crossed for leftover doughnuts in the break room!
  6. Do I need to wash my hair?
It looks rough. Washing it might be best, but that’ll definitely set me back. Should I throw it in a messy bun and pretend it’s intentional? Can I pull that off, or will I just look like I fought with a hedge?
  7. Why are the kids so slow?
Seriously? They’ve had 20 minutes to get moving. What’s taking so long? It’s like they’ve mastered the art of tuning out my voice! I’ve asked them to put on shoes at least five times.
  8. You can’t find your shoes?
How do you lose shoes? If they’d just put them where they belong, we wouldn’t have this problem. Do they think I suggested the closet just for decoration?
  9. Where did I put that?
After scolding everyone about keeping track of their things, I can’t find my keys or wallet. This always happens when we’re running late! Where was I last when I had them?
  10. What day is it, anyway?
Is it an early-out day? Do we have sports or karate later? Did I miss a meeting? When do I actually have to put on real pants?

Juggling the quest for everyone to appear somewhat put-together, providing nourishing meals, and keeping track of our schedules creates a morning frenzy that never seems to end. It’s a good thing I have a maid! Oh wait—never mind.
