With your eldest now 20, how are you coping with the empty nest?
Children must spread their wings to forge their own identities. While there’s a bittersweet ache in letting go—because we often wish to keep them as our little ones forever—it’s incredibly gratifying to witness their unique personalities unfold. As parents, we can impart our values, but they must develop their own beliefs and principles.
How has being a mother influenced you?
Out of all my experiences, nurturing my three children alongside my husband has been both the toughest and the most fulfilling journey I’ve embarked on.
What’s your secret to achieving balance in life?
Honestly, I struggle with it! Balance has never been my strong suit. I’ve realized that life unfolds in seasons, each requiring us to set our priorities. My top priorities are my faith and family, followed by my career. When those are out of alignment, I find myself feeling overwhelmed and ineffective.
You’ve achieved remarkable success in business. What’s a key lesson you’ve learned?
I’ve often been labeled a control enthusiast. I prefer to think of it as passion, but it wasn’t until I turned 40 that I grasped the power of saying “no” as a complete response. While “no, thank you” is a more polite option, a simple “no” suffices. I’ve learned that I don’t have to take on every task.
What advice would you offer women facing challenges in realizing their potential?
There will always be individuals who doubt your abilities, claiming you’re not good enough or smart enough. Don’t waste a moment on that negativity. People tend to box others in, but I don’t fit into any mold.
Many women give up after facing obstacles, thinking that a setback means their dreams are lost. It doesn’t have to be that way! However, a goal or dream without a clear timetable and strategy will remain just that—a dream or even a delusion. You need a solid plan.
Reflecting on your journey, what advice would you give your younger self?
It’s far easier to dish out advice than to follow it, and I’ve often fallen into that trap. Perhaps I would tell myself to slow down. I know I don’t get enough rest, but that’s okay; I’ll catch up eventually. My modeling days taught me valuable lessons—many of which revolved around rejection. The experience taught me not to take myself too seriously. I take my work seriously, but not my own ego.
