If your child is in elementary school, you’re likely well-acquainted with the chaos of birthday celebrations. With kids turning three, four, and five, you can expect to spend the next several months attending parties at places like Chuck E. Cheese, Fun Town, gymnastics centers, or bowling alleys every weekend.
To ease this burden, I propose a revolutionary concept: the Universal Birthday Bash (UBB). This event will take place on the first Saturday of each month from 4 PM to 6 PM. This timing typically works well, as most sports events are finished by then, and it’s a convenient time for those little ones still on a napping schedule.
You’ll always know when the event is happening, allowing you to plan ahead for babysitters for your other children. Plus, there’s no need to send invitations—just show up at 4 PM and check the list of birthday kids for the month.
Each month, the venue will change: September at the Community Center, October at Pizza Haven, November at Chuck E. Cheese, and December at Playland, among others.
To participate, you’ll contribute $300 to the UBB fund and receive a UBB card. Whenever you attend a party, simply swipe your card to deduct the amount. This includes a $5 contribution towards a universal gift card for the birthday child—no more duplicate gifts or last-minute shopping for someone you barely know.
In a similar vein to swim meets where kids receive ribbons for their achievements, the UBB will have a system for thank you cards. These will be prepared and distributed before the party concludes, ensuring that gratitude is expressed promptly.
It’s important to note that goody bags are not part of this initiative and are strictly prohibited. This means no more spending a fortune on items that will likely end up lost or broken before you even return home.
So take a breather and relish your next two weekends free from birthday parties. I’ll see you at Chuck E. Cheese on November 3rd!
