Welcome to Week 6 of Your Pregnancy Journey!
Congrats! You’ve reached the 6-week mark of your pregnancy—what an exciting time! Here’s what you can expect during this week.
Mental State:
At this stage, are you still processing the reality of being pregnant, or is disbelief still lingering? It’s common to experience fluctuating emotions; one moment you might feel ecstatic, while the next you could find yourself in tears or feeling inexplicably angry. This emotional whirlwind is largely due to hormonal changes that significantly impact your mood. Welcome aboard!
You may also be noticing the phenomenon known as “pregnancy brain.” It’s a handy excuse for any forgetfulness or absent-mindedness until your little one arrives, after which it seamlessly transitions into “baby brain.” So, it’s okay if you’re feeling a bit forgetful—embrace it!
Physical Changes:
You might have gained a few pounds from cravings, or perhaps you’ve lost some weight due to nausea and vomiting. (Thanks a lot for the constant urge to munch on those two bags of chips and the never-ending queasiness, pregnancy.) There’s a good chance—about 75%—that you’re experiencing morning sickness or will soon. And, just a heads up, it’s not limited to mornings; it’s more of an all-day affair. If those large prenatal vitamins are making you feel worse, consider asking your healthcare provider about switching to children’s chewables combined with a folic acid supplement until the second trimester brings some relief. After all, a vitamin isn’t much help if it’s just going to come back up!
Baby Development:
Your baby has tripled in size but is still about the size of a BB (yes, the kind that’s way too dangerous for kids to play with). At six weeks, your little one is beginning to take shape; their head and facial features are forming, with small indentations where the eyes, ears, nose, and mouth will develop. And it’s not just the exterior—internal organs like the lungs, liver, kidneys, and a heart that’s beating at approximately 110 beats per minute are also starting to take form. Things are seriously heating up in there!
Nest Tips:
If you’re struggling with nausea, consider trying natural remedies like mint or acupressure wrist bands to help ease your discomfort.
