Last week was a whirlwind. So hectic that I completely spaced on picking up my little ones from their art show at preschool. Oops.

In the past, I would have been hard on myself about it. Just a few weeks ago, I might have felt the same way. But I’ve come to realize: mistakes are part of the gig. I will mess up. So will you. More than once. But rest assured, your kids will be just fine. In fact, they probably won’t even remember it.

So if you’re feeling guilty, just stop. You’re not alone, and you won’t be the last mom to make a blunder. Every mom, at some point, will likely experience at least one of the following:

  1. Forgetting the tooth under the pillow. If tonight is your night, just remember that sometimes the Tooth Fairy leaves the money under the bed. It’s all good. Your child will get over it—even if the Tooth Fairy takes a few days to show up.
  2. Overlooking the pick-up time for your child. Your little one will be okay. The other parents waiting for you might be more annoyed than your child will be.
  3. Missing a game because you showed up at the wrong time. Your child might be upset for a bit, but they’ll bounce back.
  4. Volunteering to bring snacks for a class party and then completely forgetting to send them. There’s usually so much food at these events that no one will even notice your absence.
  5. Skipping the award ceremony only to find out your child was slated to receive the “Most Awesome Kid in the History of Ever” award. Don’t fret; once your child receives the award, they likely won’t care that you missed it.
  6. Missing the game where your child scored a winning point or broke a record. Hopefully, someone captured the moment on video.
  7. Sending your child to school despite their complaints of feeling unwell, only to have to pick them up after they got sick in class. At least you won’t have to deal with the clean-up!
  8. Forgetting to meet the bus after school and leaving your child alone with the bus driver. After a few times, the bus driver may start bringing snacks for your child.
  9. Telling your daughter that her arm is just bruised, only to discover at the doctor’s office that she actually fractured it a week ago. Don’t worry; the bright pink cast will make everything better.
  10. Completely forgetting a birthday party for one of your child’s classmates. Count your blessings—those parties can be a real drag.
